Marnie Lee Feltarty
Marnie Lee was brought up in the creative shadow of Mt. Warning, Northern NSW. She has been a compulsive serial dabbler in a wide variety of arts and crafts – gaining valuable experience in creating visual, functional & wearable art.
In 2006 she found herself instantly besotted with the ancient craft of felting and brings all the elements of her diverse understanding of form and function into being. She lives in her Studio in Peachester (QLD) with her mostly patient family.
How long have you been making felt?
Just over 7 years
How did you get started?
Starting small, and by realising that people like what I make and that I LOVED to make. And I can’t keep them all, can I?
What is your greatest inspiration?
That is a difficult thing to answer. Felt breaks down over time, there are few examples of these kinds of fabrics found in prehistoric sites but it has been a part of our evolutionary survival, most nomadic tribes use felt and have a passed this knowledge on. I reflect on what has been created and lost over time, what beautiful things people have made across the world, the different hands throughout our history moving the fibres around, what they would have been expressing. I feel my soul is somehow tapping into this amazing progression of knowledge, this one of my inspirations.
