Porcelain Memories by Katie
How long have you been making your unique jewellery for?
I have been making jewellery from broken plates for 18 months How did you get started? I have a passion for fine china – and basically, what girl doesn’t like jewellery! What is your greatest inspiration? Keeping a piece of the past ‘alive’. What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business? Time management. I work full time and I am my husbands’ carer after him breaking his back. What is the best experience owning your own creative business? Because I’m the boss 😉 I’ve always been a creative person and I can really lose myself whilst making these ‘one off’ pieces. I find it very therapeutic for me. |
My name is Katie Bailey and I LOVE fine china.
I have been collecting for over 30 years. I love the way the fine china takes me back in time. But life happens, and things get broken. I always strive to bring a piece of the past into the present – and this time as wearable art. Each one is unique as no 2 are the same. I decided to make some jewellery from one of my hubby’s grandmothers’ plates (who sadly passed away) as a way to give a ‘piece’ of Mar Mar to family members and to keep her memory alive. They really struck a chord with everyone, so I created ‘Porcelain Memories’, and the rest is history.
