I am a Melbourne based Graphic Designer/ Illustrator. Drawing and creating whenever I get a chance.
Art is my meditation, it's a place I can escape and reconnect with myself and the universe.
I generally work using gouache and pencil, and I often recolour using photoshop. My inspirations include colour, light stories and signs.
I love illustrating stories of mythology and legends from around the world. I am deeply inspired by the sun, the moon the earth and the sea. Through my art I try to evoke a feeling of peace and calm.
How long have you been designing and illustrating?
After I completed my Textile design degree 7 years ago, I started working full time as a Graphics Designer in the Surf Industry. It was only a few years ago that I started to get really into my personal artwork/illustration on a more regular basis. Now I create my personal artwork for me as well working on commissioned pieces.
How did you get started?
After a few years working as a full time graphic designer I decided I needed to have more of a creative outlet so I started creating artworks of things I loved and felt inspired by. I then started a Facebook page and an Instagram account to document my progress, and I found social media was great way to get my work out there. It has also been where I have been receiving a lot of my clients for my commission work.
What is your greatest inspiration?
I think my greatest inspiration would be our connection with the universe and ourselves. A lot of people live at such a fast pace, but I find it so interesting that when we allow ourselves to be still we can really acknowledge who we are and how we feel if we take the time to listen. I find it fascinating and I hope that some of my art can help people be still for a moment and reconnect.
What is the greatest challenge to owning and operating your own business?
For me the greatest challenge so far is managing my full time Graphic Design job, my Freelance Illustration work as well as my personal artwork. But hopefully one day soon I'll be able to do my illustration work full time.
What is the greatest thing about owning your own creative business?
The best thing about owning your own creative business is being able to provide a service to people that is truly what you love doing.
As Confucius says, "Choose a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life"!
